Sangamon County Rescue Squad

The Sangamon County Rescue Squad was founded in 1958 and is an all-volunteer squad made up of men and women from every walk of life that are on call 24/7/, 365 days a year to serve as additional support to all first responder agencies in the County while providing assistance to the citizens of Sangamon County during a time in need.  

The Sangamon County Rescue Squad consists of three branches: a Heavy Duty Rescue Squad, Search and Rescue Canine Unit and an Auxiliary Dive Team.  All three branches meet and train at their headquarters located at 2801 N. Fifth Street in Springfield.  The Heavy Duty Rescue Squad meets and trains on Monday nights at 1900 hours, the Canine Unit meets and trains on Tuesday nights at 1800 hours and the Dive Team meets and trains on the first Monday of each month at 1800 hours.  

To become a member one needs to complete an application, pass a background check, attend 3 meetings and then be voted on by the Rescue Squad staff members.  If you are interested in serving the citizens of Sangamon County as a member of the Sangamon County Rescue Squad, Contact the Sangamon County Office of Emergency Management at (217) 747-5101/5102.
